Max Grosch Quartet

was founded in 2001. At the Lake Placid Jazz Festival the violinist was for the first time enchanted by the spirit of jazz improvisation and urged by faculty members to form his own group. Since then this extraordinary band has grown into an interesting and versatile jazz quartet.

The violin, a rather seldomly heard instrument in the field of Jazz, is added to a conventional rhythm section of piano, bass and drums. This is by no means an innovation, since musicians such as Joe Venuti, Stuff Smith, Stephane Grappelli, Didier Lockwood or Regina Carter have contributed in great ways to the history of Jazz up to this day and age. This group however does have distinct differences in its very own sound from the above. Important to the concept is spontaneous creativity and a strongly improvisatory character, while beauty of sound, virtuosity, versatility, yet constant musical flow are never sacrificed. The goal in every performance is to take the audience on an improvisational journey and at the same time to always offer a clear underlying concept. In an understandable way the audience can observe the highly interesting interplay between the musicians. The repertoire is mainly composed of standards of the American Song Book, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian rhythms as well as originals of band members.

This group can already look back on a successful performing career in various countries. The band has among other festivals performed at the ZMF (Freiburg, Germany), the renowned ‘Munich Klaviersommer’, the Augsburger Jazz-Summer and has recorded at the ‘Studio Franken’ of the Bavarian Broadcasting Company. In April of 2004 the max grosch quartet introduced their first album with the title 'we will see…', which was reviewed exceptionally well by press and public broadcast.

This quartet is on the course of creating its entirely own niche among the variety of today's music world.
